Every beautiful space begins with light and material.
Our name is what we believe. Jour is the daylight moving through a room from morning to evening; matière is the stone, timber and brass it falls on. Together they carry the beauty of a space. We are an interior design studio in Singapore, and we design every home and every shop around both.
We design with the light first, then the material.
Before we draw a line, we look at where the light comes in — the hard morning sun, the soft light of late afternoon, the corner that never gets any. Then we choose materials that answer it: a honed stone that glows instead of glares, oak to warm a shaded room, lime plaster to soften a bright one.
We design the room, choose the stone with you at the yard, and stay to build it. One small studio from the first sketch to the day you move back in, so what gets built is what we imagined together.

Light only shows what it lands on. We keep to a short list of materials we know well — how each one ages, how it wears, and how it looks at eight in the morning and at five in the afternoon.
